"OOH" stands for Out Of Home, a marketing and advertising technique that uses large signs, billboards, or other means to target consumers.
OOH advertising is a great way to get your business in front of new customers and drive foot traffic to your store or other retail location. However, it’s important to understand the type of OOH that is right for your business and target market. The level of visibility, frequency, and budget that you have will be major factors when deciding whether or not OOH media will be a good fit for your company. Here are some examples of OOH media:

What is visible OOH?
Visibility is the amount of time a sign is up in a location and being seen by potential customers. This is different than frequency, which is how often you’ll see the sign in a certain area. While visibility can vary depending on factors like weather and season, it’s generally measured in days and weeks by planners and advertisers. Because visibility is a key factor in determining how successful an OOH campaign will be, you’ll find that many businesses opt for more visible signs and formats, such as digital billboards or large panels. However, less visible formats like newspaper ads or wall posters can also be effective. To determine the best type of sign for your business, consider the location, season, and other factors that will affect visibility (e.g., traffic, weather, etc.). Some other things to think about are the audience makeup and their current buying habits. In other words, will people reading or passing by your sign see someone they know who might be interested in your product or service? You can also use digital sign analytics to see how many people are passing your sign.
What is infrequent OOH?
Often, visibility is measured in weeks or months, not days. This means that you’ll see your sign a lot less than a sign that is visible in just a day or two. You might see some infrequent signs during festivals or special events, but the majority will be on buildings around town or in shopping malls. Unlike visible signs, which can be seen at any time of day, an infrequent sign will only be seen during certain hours, depending on where it is placed.
What is frequent OOH?
Frequent signs will be seen a lot more often than they are visible, which means they are more often visible than they are infrequent. At this level, you’ll see signs on a daily or weekly basis in one or more locations. Planning for frequent OOH signs often means using a single location, or a series of locations, for your signs. For example, your business could be in multiple locations at once, but you could choose to only advertise at the main location. Another option is to have a fleet of cars that drive around your city or town, displaying signs to potential customers.

What is budget OOH?
For budget OOH, you’re looking to spend as little as possible on the sign. This might be a free ad on an abandoned building where the cost of the signs is negligible, or it might be a sign on a friend’s house or a temporary sign. Budget OOH is great for testing out your designs and gauging the interest of your market. This can help you determine the type of advertising that will work best for your business.
Where to find and purchase OOH media?
There are many places you can find ads for OOH. The most common are local newspapers, local shopping malls, and college campuses. You can also find some online sources, like digital sign networks. Local newspapers are often the most affordable, but the catch is finding one near your target market. For example, if your market is rural, the nearest newspaper may not be the best choice. Instead, you may want to look in a city where many people would travel to get the paper. College newspapers are often cheaper than newspapers, but they’re also often only read by students. The same goes for shopping malls and other indoor locations. Outdoor locations can be more expensive, but they’re also more likely to be seen by a larger audience.

Print advertising
Print ads are the most affordable form of OOH marketing and often the most effective, especially for local businesses. Because they are in-person, they are more likely to be remembered than online ads and are better suited for businesses with a physical presence, like a storefront or restaurant. Paper ads can be in a variety of formats, from online listings to printed newspapers or digital billboards. You can also create a digital ad, using platforms like Facebook or Instagram.
Display Advertising
These are often found in digital signs, billboards, or posters. They are not as accessible as some other forms of OOH because they are usually only seen at one or a few locations. Like digital signs, digital billboards are often located in prominent areas and are seen by a large number of people. Digital signs, on the other hand, are often installed on buildings and flashing in windows, making them less accessible than billboards. Unlike other forms of OOH, you can’t see the same ad more than once on a digital sign. Instead, they are scheduled to show a different ad every few seconds.
Radio Advertising
These ads are often found on local FM radio stations. They are often the most accessible form of OOH because they are often situated right near the radio station and are almost always seen by a large number of people.

Conclusion
OOH advertising is an effective way to reach new customers and drive traffic to your store or other retail location. However, it’s important to understand the type of OOH that is right for your business and target market. The level of visibility, frequency, and budget that you have will be major factors when deciding if OOH media will be a good fit for your company. If you know the type of OOH that will best suit your business, you can easily find and purchase the right OOH for your market.
